Effective Solutions for Hydrogen Sulfide

Effective Solutions for Hydrogen Sulfide | Novamen

What is Hydrogen Sulfide?

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S/H ₂S) is a chemical compound produced as a result of the microbial breakdown of organic materials. It is a product created either naturally from decaying organic matter, or synthetically as a result of the chemical process.

On its own, Hydrogen Sulfide is a colourless gas that burns easily, and can be recognized by the foul odour of “rotten eggs”, at lower concentration levels.

It is important to note that hydrogen sulphide is very poisonous, corrosive, and flammable. To learn more about how to use Hydrogen Sulfide safely, click here. Specific safe work methods and procedures are used to limit exposure and potential hazardous risks.

When is Hydrogen Sulfide used?

Hydrogen Sulfide is primarily used as a reagent (starting participant in a chemical reaction) or as an intermediate (a substance that a chemical production process creates) in the manufacturing of pesticides, leather, dyes and pharmaceuticals. It is also a by-product of the desulfurization process of fuels.

As such, this gas commonly found during the drilling and production of crude oil and natural gas. Hydrogen sulfide is also used in wastewater treatment, utility facilities and sewers.

Additional places where Hydrogen Sulfide can be found, include:

  • Petroleum products manufacturing and refining
  • Sewer and wastewater treatment
  • Agricultural silos and pits
  • Textile manufacturing
  • Pulp and paper processing
  • Food processing
  • Hot asphalt paving
  • Mining

Our Top Recommended H2S Scavengers Collection

Novamen proudly produces solutions that help scavenge (neutralize) hydrogen sulfide.

NovaSweet 110

NovaSweet 110 is an aqueous cyclic tertiary amine solution used in natural gas-treating applications with high CO2 concentrations. It is fast and effective solution to remove sulfide.

It controls high H2S loading even in high CO2 gas, is effective in water and gas applications and is water soluble and biodegradable.

NovaSweet 203

NovaSweet 203 is a non-amine H2S scavenger, replacing MEA-Triazine in liquid hydrocarbon streams. NovaSweet 203 reacts with the H2S molecules and turns them into aqueous non-toxic sulphate salt.

This product reduces fouling created by amine-based scavengers in refineries, production streams and crude oil terminals while keeping treating costs in the same level as triazines.

NeutraGas 365

NeutraGas 365 is used to neutralize H2S from water. It contains no triazines or amines, nor does it contain or produce any formaldehydes.

Features & Benefits

  • Non-toxic/environmentally friendly. Contains no WHMIS/OSHA hazardous ingredients. Completely safe for personnel to handle and no harmful effects to the environment (biodegradable).
  • Produces no precipitates  – passes harmlessly through pumps and filters.
  • CO2 has no effect on NeutraGas 365.
  • NeutraGas 365 will also bond with/remove iron sulfide.
  • Tested and approved by several refineries as an acceptable replacement for Triazines.
  • Tested and approved by several pressure pumping (fracturing) companies for use with their frac fluids.
  • Simple application methods – no expensive capital equipment required.
  • Outperforms nearly all other scavengers in loading efficiency. Very cost competitive option for H2S treatment.
