Giving Back to Alberta

We Are Chemical Distributors & Community Members

One of the core values that Novamen prides itself on is giving back to our community. Our whole team is committed to giving our time and financial support to help local charities, teams and individuals receive the aid they need.

FOOD BANK DONATIONS

Since: January 2018
Type: Donations (Semi-annual)

Novamen employees donate to the Red Deer food bank semi-annually. Different departments compete to see who can donate the most food, and those donations are dropped off monthly during the competition.

THE MUSTARD SEED

Since: November 2018
Type: Volunteer (Bi-Monthly)

Novamen staff have committed to help the Mustard Seed in Red Deer biweekly with their school lunch program, preparing sandwiches for kids who would otherwise have gone hungry.

The Salvation Army

Type: Volunteer

The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people in 400 communities across Canada and in 133 countries, including those where Novamen operates.

Novamen's employees are committed to supporting the Salvation Army through our volunteer efforts.

THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

Type: Volunteer

Ronald McDonald House provides families of sick children with a place to stay while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital. The Red Deer Regional Hospital has 33,000 pediatric stays per year, with one-third being from out of town. With 30 out of town patients per day at the hospital, there is a great need for Red Deer’s Ronald McDonald House to provide housing for their families.

At a very stressful time in a family’s life, Novamen employees step up to help ease the burden in a very practical way. We volunteered one evening every month to plan, shop for, and prepare a healthy, nutritious meal for the children and their families.

THE RED DEER WARMING CENTRE

Type: Volunteer

Red Deer is a tough place to be homeless. With winter temperatures dipping below -40C at times, being outdoors for an extended period is out of the question. Fortunately, places like the Warming Centre provide a warm and safe environment during cold periods. The city of Red Deer funds the Centre during the winter months, but these funds rarely are able to cover the extra cost of providing meals.

The Red Deer Warming Centre relies almost solely on volunteers and donations to provide meals during the day, often with just peanut butter and bread available to eat.

Novamen employees committed to providing and serving at least one or two wholesome and nutritious meals per month.

MEALS ON WHEELS

Type: Volunteer

Employees from the Novamen Acheson warehouse started to prepare and deliver food to the elderly or shut in people in the area in 2019.

Some volunteer opportunities available with Meals on Wheels are:

Meals-on-Wheels Volunteer Driver
Volunteers deliver nutritionally balanced meals and groceries to people from Edmonton and area who cannot prepare adequate meals or shop easily for themselves.

Kitchen Helper
Our team helped Edmonton Meals on Wheels prepare over 700 meals each weekday by chopping, peeling, dishing and packaging food, baking, and more.

Meals on Wheels Grocery Shopper
Volunteer grocery shoppers bought, delivered and shelved groceries for low income and homebound people who cannot shop for themselves. Each volunteer is matched with a client in a preferred city location.

“I really appreciate the service and the visits from the volunteers. They are really nice and polite. It’s usually the only person I see in a day, so I look forward to it.” -Meals on Wheels client, Patricia

Donations

CANADIAN RED CROSS ALBERTA

Since: One Time (2016)
Type: Donation

Residents of Fort McMurray and the surrounding Wood Buffalo Regional District were the victims of “the Beast,” a huge wildfire that burned out of control in the northern Alberta municipality in May 2016. Fort McMurray and surrounding areas were evacuated as the fire destroyed many of the homes in the city.

It was a monumental effort by many volunteers, first responders and corporations to safely house, feed and evacuate thousands of residents.

Novamen donated $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal in support of the victims of the Fort McMurray fire. We have the privilege of working with many companies in the oilsands and community of Fort McMurray, and we wanted to help support them through that difficult time.

FESTIVAL OF THE TREES

Since: 2016
Type: Donation

The Red Deer Regional Health Foundation is dedicated to seeking alternative funding sources for special programs and upgraded equipment for healthcare facilities at the Red Deer Hospital. To achieve this, the Foundation has undertaken a comprehensive fundraising program.

The Festival of Trees, Hospitals’ Lottery, Love of Children Golf Classic, an employee giving program, the grateful patient program, and a complete planned giving program are some of the fundraising efforts initiated by the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation.

Novamen has supported the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation since 2016 as a Gold Sponsor at the Festival of the Trees Business Luncheon.

COMMUNITY DONATIONS

Since: 2017
Type: Donation (Employee Directed)

Novamen’s community is expanding, and we support causes that reflect the concerns and interests of each person on our team. In consideration of this, Novamen is contributing a set dollar figure per employee per year to the sports team, foundation or charity organization chosen by each employee.

Novamen is grateful to work with a team of people that share this value. Thank you for all you do working with Novamen, contributing to the community you live in and the causes that are near to your heart.
