Deicing FAQs

Traditional deicers use natural salts as the mechanism for deicing. Salts are corrosive and cause damage to equipment and infrastructure over time, and they are not biodegradable. They can be toxic in large volumes and will accumulate in the environment causing harm to animals and vegetation. Caution should always be exercised when using traditional salt based deicers and runoff should be monitored closely.

However, many of Novamen’s deicing products are environmentally friendly and are non-toxic and nonhazardous.

Novamen chooses materials with excellent low temperature properties and contain no salts, or in the worst case, a fraction of the salts used in traditional methods. In addition, these materials are selected for being non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-hazardous, non-injurious, biodegradable and safe for use around humans, animals and vegetation.

Anything that can pose a hazard or problem because of freezing will benefit from applying the properly selected deicer.
