NovaPhase 9000 Series is comprised of reverse demulsifiers (also called reverse emulsion breakers) that are used for the phase separation of oil-in-water or reverse emulsions. Products in this series are made of water-soluble, cationic emulsions of polyacrylamide (EPAM) or quaternized polyamine chemistries which are designed to break reverse emulsions through chemical assisted flocculation of the oil droplets. Utilizing synthetic water-soluble/water-dispersible polymers known as cationic polyelectrolytes, the negatively charged surfaces are neutralized allowing it to overcome the repulsive force at the oil droplet’s surface. Reverse demulisfiers are differentiated by molecular weight and charge densities. Molecular weight can range from 1-60 million Daltons and is characterized indirectly by the measurement of standard viscosity.
Novamen recognizes that designing a demulsification chemical program can be a challenging job. It requires a thorough understanding of the system, and careful planning to come up with the correct reverse demulsifier chemistry. At the treating facility, on-site bottle testing with a fresh emulsion sample is recommended for the screening of NovaPhase 9000 series of products.
The reverse demulsifier is mostly applied to any oil production system where it generates a higher amount of water (continuous phase) that encapsulates oil, thus produced oily water at the downstream process. Oil production system like the steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD), enhanced oil recovery (EOR) system that uses cyclic steam stimulation, polymer or water flooding. Others like sludge conditioning and thickening can use the emulsion polyacrylamide (EPAM) as an alternative to the dry polyacrylamide (DPAM).
NovaPhase 9000 Series reverse demulsifiers offer the following benefits:
- Lower the oil & grease carry-over (<100 ppm) to the downstream process
- Increase sellable oil levels and reduce total cost of operation
- Fast phase separation of oil in water
- Improve the efficiency of the separation equipment
- Reduces freshwater usage and costs
- Can improve the downstream process of water de-oiling and softening
