Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) is ground and sized limestone and is an acid soluble product that can be used as a weighting agent for drill-in or completion activities. It is also used as a bridging agent for fluid loss, lost circulation or well bore stability applications. It is preferable to barite because it is acid-soluble and can be dissolved with hydrochloric acid to clean up production zones. Calcium carbonate is available in four powdered grades and flake. Mix through a conventional jet hopper.
Features and Benefits:
- Increases the density of water-based and oil-based drilling fluids
- Used in drill-in, completions and workover applications
- Fully acid soluble
- Effectively sized particle bridging agent for filtration, lost circulation and squeezes
- May be used in cement blends

Calcium carbonate is added to drilling fluids as a formation-bridging and filtercake-sealing agent; it is also a weighting material which increases the density of drilling fluids to control the downhole pressure.
